Singers
Resident Artists
A minimum of four Resident Artist Singers will be chosen to perform major solo roles in the mainstage festival productions, many of which will be double-cast. Resident Artists participate in all training opportunities and most concerts. Resident Artists are likely to be young professionals or singers at post-graduate level.
All Resident Artists receive $3,500 tuition scholarships. If Residents Artists elect to accept festival housing, they also receive this free of charge, for a full ride, with a total value of $4,600.
Featured Artists
A minimum of four Featured Artist Singers will be chosen to perform substantial solo roles in the mainstage festival productions, understudy substantial roles, sing in ensembles and concerts, and participate in all training opportunities. This category is likely to appeal to singers at graduate level.
Artists receive scholarships of $2,500, but pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program.
Studio Artists
A minimum of four Studio Artist Singers will be chosen with the guarantee of performing appropriate solo roles and performing in the ensemble, understudying roles, singing in concerts, showcased in a Studio Artists recital, or all of the above. Studio Artists tend to be singers at undergraduate or graduate level.
Studio Artists receive $1,500 in scholarships, but pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program.
Apprentice Artists
Up to four Apprentice Artist Singers will participate in the training program with the same advantages as Studio Artists. Apprentice Artists receive scholarships of $1,250, but pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program. In return, Apprentice Artists will work for the festival in varying capacities. These positions may include tasks such as assisting backstage or in front-of-house as required.
This category is geared towards singers at undergraduate level with an interest in choral and musical theater repertoire as well as in opera.
Resident Artist Pianists
There will be up to four openings for Resident Artist Pianists. Pianists will work alongside world-class conductors and coaches in rehearsals, concerts, and training sessions, and are expected to perform in operas and concerts. Each will receive a full scholarship worth $3,500 but are responsible for their housing (or may pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program.)
Production Staff
Stage Directors
There will be up to two places for Assistant Stage Directors. They will work as Assistant Directors on mainstage productions, rehearse understudies and second casts, help with scheduling, and run rehearsals. Some knowledge of French is advantageous. Assistant Stage Directors pay no tuition, but are responsible for their housing. (or may pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program.)
Stage Managers
There will be three places for Assistant Stage Managers. They will work closely with Directors and casts running mainstage productions and some concerts. Experience of opera stage management is essential, and some knowledge of French is advantageous. Assistant Stage Managers pay no tuition, but are responsible for their housing. (or may pay $1,100 for housing if taken through the program.)
Arts Administrators
There will be up to two places for Resident Arts Administrators. They will work closely with management and artists, working on scheduling, marketing, event management and production, as well as assisting with managing the Young Artists Program and the main festival. A background in Arts Administration and some knowledge of French is essential. Resident Arts Administrators pay no tuition, but are responsible for their housing.
